A new cover design for Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
A concept for a redesign of the cover of the classic book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt, a book about murder, love affairs, voodoo, crime, and Southern humor. Based in Savannah, Georgia, the book tells the story of the infamous murder in the Mercer-Williams House and the trial of Jim Williams. For this cover, I created an illustration of the Mercer-Williams House with Jim standing in the entryway, perhaps after the crime. Spanish moss and oak trees further shroud the scene and give hints to the setting of the book. The cover would have a copper foil effect on the title, reminiscent of the guilded era when the house was built.
